Binghamton University Sweeps Vermont Fall Foliage Cross Country Invitational
ST ALBANS, Vt. – Binghamton University’s cross country teams had a successful outing at the Vermont Fall Foliage Cross Country Invitational on Sunday afternoon, with graduate student Josh Stone and junior Sydney Leitner winning the men’s and women’s races, respectively. Both the men’s and women’s squads also took home team championship titles, with the Bearcats placing first out of six competing teams.
This victory marks the first time Binghamton has swept team titles at a cross country invitational since 2021, and the first time they have swept individual championships since 2022. Head coach Annette Acuff praised her team’s execution of race plans and their focus and effort, which was clearly reflected in the results.
Stone won his third career cross country race with a time of 24:46, leading a 1-2-3 Binghamton finish. Leitner won her first career cross country meet with a time of 17:53, finishing four seconds ahead of the runner up.
Binghamton’s men’s team scored 24 points, well ahead of second place UAlbany and host Vermont. The women’s team scored 47 points, narrowly beating out Vermont. This success sets the stage for the Bearcats as they return to Vermont on Nov. 2 for the America East Championships.
Overall, Binghamton’s strong showing at the Vermont Fall Foliage Cross Country Invitational puts them in a great position moving forward in the season.
