Report suggests Kansas woman discovered in Oklahoma freezer was killed by 30 stab wounds

In March of this year, Veronica Butler and Jilian Kelley disappeared and their remains were found in a freezer buried in a cow pasture in Oklahoma. A medical examiner’s report revealed that Butler had died from sharp force trauma and had 30 wounds, with 10 consistent with self-defense. Butler had a laceration on her head, possibly from a stun gun, and was likely dead before being placed in the freezer. Five people have been charged with their murders, including Tifany Adams, Adams’ boyfriend Tad Bert Cullum, Cole Earl Twombly, Cora Twombly, and Paul Grice. Four of the defendants are being represented by the Oklahoma Indigent Defense System. Adams and Butler were involved in a custody dispute, with Butler seeking extended visitation rights. On the day she disappeared, Butler planned to take her daughter to a birthday party. The investigation also revealed that Adams had at times prevented the children’s father, who had legal custody, from seeing his children. Cullum had rented the property where the bodies were found for cattle grazing. Plans to grant Butler unsupervised visitation rights were in motion before her death. The tragedy has shed light on the dangerous nature of custody disputes and the extremes to which some individuals may go in such situations.
