The Vermont men’s hockey team started the 2024-25 season with an impressive 5-0 shutout victory over McGill in the Home Opener presented by TD Bank. Five different skaters scored for the Catamounts, with goals from Isak Walther, Luca Münzenberger, Sebastian Törnqvist, Thomas Sinclair, and Joel Määttä. Newcomers Sebastian Törnqvist, Michael La Starza, Colin Kessler, Charlie Kinsman, Jax Wismer, and Keenan Rancier made their debuts in the game.
Rancier made 17 saves in the first two periods, while Axel Mangbo made five saves in the third to combine for the shutout. The victory also resulted in a $375 donation to Special Olympics Vermont by Community Bank N.A. as part of their goal scoring initiative.
The Catamounts are now 7-4-0 against Canadian University teams since 2010. Next, Vermont will face No. 20 St. Thomas in a two-game series in St. Paul, Minnesota. The games will be played on Friday at 8 p.m. and Saturday at 7 p.m., airing on CCHA TV with live radio coverage on WVMT (96.3 FM/620 AM).
