Kynlea Compton, a 7-year-old, was busy serving brisket at the Exchange Club of Muskogee’s Chili & BBQ Cook-Off held at Hatbox Field. The event, now in its 41st year, raises money for children’s charities. Okie Eggers booth attracted many barbecue lovers with their slow-cooked chicken wings, brisket, and ribs, ultimately winning the Grand Champion title. Their tradition of winning awards was evident as they slow cook their food in 50-gallon cans. Other popular booths at the cook-off included Ruckus Q, where mother and son Christina and Josiah Pearson raved about the mac and cheese. Insurance Agent Don David also enticed noshers with his “Cajun Threauxdown” at his booth, offering a variety of dishes to the crowds.
Kristi Hoos, from Okie Eggers, mentioned that her husband, Tracy Hoos, and friends have been cooking for years and have perfected their recipes. She emphasized that they don’t change their recipes but continue to have fun at their favorite weekend event. The event drew in a large crowd of barbecue fans who enjoyed sampling different dishes and vote for their favorites. The cook-off showcased the love for barbecue in the community and the dedication of the participants to perfect their craft year after year.
