Black River Innovation Campus (BRIC), a nonprofit organization based in Springfield, Vermont, is in the midst of a $7.2 million renovation of the historic Park Street schoolhouse. The organization aims to create a thriving business ecosystem in Springfield by providing entrepreneurs with training, community support, and potentially housing.
BRIC offers training programs for entrepreneurs to develop technology-driven businesses, co-working and incubation spaces for new businesses, and STEAM programs for grades pre-K-12. The renovation of the school will include updates such as asbestos remediation, new electrical wiring, and ADA-compliant entrance points, as well as the reactivation of the building’s gymnasium and theater.
In addition to training entrepreneurs, BRIC also focuses on preparing youth for future STEAM jobs through after-school activities, professional development for educators, and summer camps. The organization has received philanthropic support to purchase Lego Robotics kits for local students.
BRIC has expanded its programming to the Randolph area through its sister organization, Cultivator, offering entrepreneurship training and co-working space with the hope of building an entrepreneurial ecosystem to support business owners and the local economy. The program is funded through a grant from the U.S. Economic Development Administration.
