BC Transit has implemented its NextRide automatic vehicle location technology on several regional transit systems in British Columbia. This new technology allows transit riders to track the real-time location of their bus and predicted arrival times using their mobile devices or desktops. Onboard announcements also call out stop names, increasing convenience and accessibility for passengers.
Customers can access NextRide through various channels such as the Transit App, Google Maps, the BC Transit website, and trip planning apps. By downloading the Transit App, customers can receive real-time bus tracking and access fun interactive features that make the transit journey more enjoyable.
The NextRide technology is funded through the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program, with the government of Canada, the province of British Columbia, and local government partners all contributing to the cost. The project aims to improve the customer experience, increase ridership, and make transit more accessible and enjoyable for passengers.
While there may be a short delay in real-time data information for customers using Google Maps, BC Transit is working to ensure that all customers have access to accurate and up-to-date bus tracking information across all platforms. The NextRide project is part of BC Transit’s Smart Bus program, which focuses on introducing new technologies to enhance the customer experience and improve overall transit services.
