Catamounts Secure Victory Over NJIT with Strong Performance in Second Half Set Pieces


Vermont continued their strong season with a 2-0 victory over NJIT, extending their unbeaten streak to 11 matches. Zach Barrett and Max Murray both scored off second half corners to secure the win for the Catamounts. Head Coach Rob Dow praised his team for their composure and execution, highlighting the importance of set pieces in the game. With the win, Vermont now sits alone in first place in America East with seven points. Sydney Wathuta led the team with two assists, contributing to his team-leading eight assists for the season.

The Catamounts have shown determination and depth throughout the season, scoring crucial goals in the later stages of matches. Goalkeeper Niklas Herceg earned his second straight shutout, solidifying the team’s defense. The team’s current .750 winning percentage is among the top in the NCAA, demonstrating their strong performance this season.

The victory also had a positive impact off the field, with Vermont Mutual Insurance Group donating $100 to the Vermont Children’s Trust Foundation as part of the Cats Wins, Community Wins Initiative. The team will now turn their focus to their next match against second place Bryant on October 19th at Virtue Field, where they will also honor their senior class in a pregame ceremony.
