Vermont Catamounts Skate to Shootout Tie Against Providence
PROVIDENCE, RI – In a hard-fought battle at Schneider Arena, the Vermont Catamounts secured a 0-0 tie against Providence on Saturday evening, marking their second consecutive game that went to a shootout. Senior goaltender Jane Gervais delivered a stellar performance with a 30-save shutout and successfully blocked all three attempts from the Friars during the shootout. Ashley Kokavec clinched the game-winning goal for Vermont (3-8-2, 2-5-2 HEA), providing the team with an extra conference point.
The match showcased a defensive struggle, as neither team managed to score in regulation or overtime. Gervais’s exceptional play between the pipes proved pivotal in keeping the game scoreless, and the Catamounts’ defensive strategy was highlighted by a lack of goals despite multiple scoring opportunities from both sides.
Head Coach Jim Plumer praised the team’s effort, stating, "I’m incredibly proud of everyone in our program for the heart they displayed. We are improving as a team and have especially cleaned up the defensive side of the game." He also noted the impact of Maddy Skelton’s return to the lineup.
Statistically, Gervais recorded her second shutout of the season. Kokavec led the team with six shots on goal, while Evelyne Blais-Savoie dominated in the faceoff circle with 14 wins. Vermont notably won 31 total faceoffs compared to Providence’s 16.
Looking ahead, the Catamounts will host Union at Gutterson Fieldhouse on Wednesday, November 20, at 6 p.m., marking the start of a three-game homestand. Fans can catch the action live on ESPN+ and TSN+, with Rob Ryan providing the commentary. Tickets are available for those eager to support the team.
