A Rhode Island man was arraigned on 17 charges, including the attempted murder of three Vermont state troopers. The incident occurred when the man led police on a high-speed chase that resulted in a shootout between him and the troopers. The suspect, identified as a 26-year-old man, faces charges that include attempted murder, aggravated assault, and reckless endangerment.
The chase began when Vermont state troopers attempted to pull over the suspect for a traffic violation. Instead of stopping, the man sped off, leading law enforcement on a dangerous pursuit that reached speeds of over 100 miles per hour. During the chase, the suspect fired multiple shots at the troopers, prompting them to return fire. Fortunately, no one was injured in the exchange of gunfire.
The suspect was eventually apprehended after crashing his vehicle into a ditch. He was taken into custody and charged with a total of 17 offenses. In addition to attempting to murder the state troopers, he was also charged with possession of a weapon in the commission of a felony and attempting to elude police.
The suspect appeared in court for his arraignment, where he pleaded not guilty to all charges. He is being held without bail pending further legal proceedings. The Vermont State Police expressed relief that no one was hurt during the incident and commended the troopers for their quick and decisive actions in apprehending the suspect.
