Historic Milestone for Vermont Men’s Soccer as They Reach NCAA College Cup
CARY, N.C. – The University of Vermont men’s soccer team (15-2-5) has made history by advancing to the NCAA College Cup for the first time in program history. The Catamounts will face off against the third-seeded Denver (15-3-4) in a highly anticipated match scheduled for Friday evening at 5 p.m. at WakeMed Soccer Park. Fans can catch the action live on ESPNU and ESPN+.
In a nod to the Catamount community, the UVM Alumni Association is hosting a pregame tailgate beginning at 3 p.m. in Lot D, with tickets still available for the big game at go.uvm.edu/cc24. The winner will progress to the National Championship Game on December 16, airing at 8 p.m. on ESPN2.
Under the guidance of Head Coach Rob Dow, Vermont has achieved an impressive milestone with nine NCAA tournament victories over the past three years, a record for any NCAA program. Notably, the Catamounts have outscored their opponents 16-5 in the second half during this time, showcasing their tenacity when it matters most.
This year, Vermont has seen standout performances from players like first-year goaltender Niklas Herceg, who boasts the top save percentage in the NCAA at .857, and Yaniv Bazini, the program’s all-time leader in NCAA tournament goals, with six in his last four outings.
As the first Vermont athletic program to qualify for four straight NCAA Tournaments, the Catamounts are looking to continue their remarkable run, aiming to become the first unseeded team to reach the championship since 2018.
