Vice President Kamala Harris concluded a multi-day battleground state tour and will attend a major fundraiser in San Francisco, aiming to court West Coast donors. Some of these donors had withdrawn support for President Joe Biden following a poor debate performance in June. The event is hosted by former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, a long-time political figure in San Francisco, who will also attend. Tickets for the Harris Victory Fund event range from $3,300 to $50,000, with 700 RSVPs and over $12 million raised for the campaign.
The fundraiser adds to the historic $310 million raised by the Harris-Walz campaign in July, with $36 million raised in the first 24 hours after Governor Tim Walz was announced as Harris’s running mate. Walz will not be attending the fundraiser, as the focus will be on Harris and her connections to California.
Pelosi’s presence at the event represents a significant shift, as she played a critical role in nudging Biden out of the 2024 race. In interviews, Pelosi expressed dissatisfaction with Biden’s political operation and had warned him that staying in the race could have dire consequences for the Democrats. Despite her support for Harris, Pelosi stressed the importance of defeating Donald Trump in the upcoming election. She indicated that she had not spoken to Biden since his decision to step aside.
