Wealthy Democratic donors urge Biden to drop out of race while Kamala Harris events draw large crowds

[ad_1]
A Zoom call with 75 wealthy Democratic political donors took place after President Joe Biden’s poor debate performance against Donald Trump, where only one donor believed Biden should stay in the race. The rest felt he needed to drop out to defeat Trump in November. Big money donors have launched a lobbying campaign to convince lawmakers to call on Biden to end his reelection campaign, threatening to withhold donations until polls show he can beat Trump. Individuals including Hollywood executive Ari Emanuel and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton have urged donors to stick with Biden. Despite calls from over 20 members of Congress for him to pass the torch, Biden has stated he has no plans to drop out. Donors have expressed concerns to campaign leadership, with Congressional leaders warning Biden that his long odds in November could harm down-ballot candidates. Despite Biden’s fundraising struggles, events featuring Vice President Kamala Harris have started selling out, potentially indicating support for her as Biden’s successor should he step aside. Harris is set to headline a concert event in Massachusetts alongside James Taylor and Yo-Yo Ma, where tickets are nearly sold out ranging from $100 to over $12,000. The Biden campaign and representatives for key figures involved did not comment on the situation.
