Substitute teacher in Minnesota accused of re-enacting George Floyd murder and making racially insensitive comments in classroom

[ad_1]
An off-duty Wisconsin police officer named Steve Williams who was working as a substitute teacher at Woodbury High School in Minnesota is under investigation following allegations of inappropriate behavior and racial insensitivity. Williams is accused of reenacting the murder of George Floyd during English classes, making racially harmful comments, and physically harming a student by twisting their arm. Williams, who is also a patrol officer with the Prescott Police Department in Wisconsin, has been placed on administrative leave by the agency.

School officials have expressed embarrassment and sorrow over the incident and have taken steps to address the situation with the students. The inappropriate actions by Williams, including making racist comments, telling sexist jokes, and describing graphic details of his experiences as a police officer, were reported to the Minnesota Department of Education and the state Professional Educator Licensing and Standards Board for investigation.

The staffing agency that placed Williams at the high school has severed ties with him and expressed zero-tolerance for violent or harmful behavior by their employees. Both the City of Prescott and the Prescott Police Department have condemned Williams’ actions as disturbing. The school district and local police department are working together to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident.

Woodbury High School and South Washington County Schools are striving to create a safe and inclusive learning environment for their diverse student population, and school officials have reassured the community that such behavior will not be tolerated within their schools.
