Police have detained a suspect following a Texas high school shooting that left 4 people injured

Four students were injured, three with gunshot wounds, after a shooting at Wilmer-Hutchins High School in Dallas. The students, aged 15 to 18, suffered injuries ranging from serious to non-life-threatening. The gunman, who was at large initially, was later arrested and is in custody. The incident occurred during the school day, prompting students to evacuate the building upon hearing gunshots.

This is not the first shooting at Wilmer-Hutchins High School, as a student was injured in a shooting last year. Dallas ISD officials expressed concern over the frequency of such incidents, calling it “unthinkable” and stating that it should not be happening regularly. The district confirmed that the gun did not enter the building during the usual security screening.

The exact circumstances leading up to the shooting were not disclosed, as the investigation is ongoing. Classes at the school have been canceled for the remainder of the week, and counselors are available for students and staff affected by the incident. District officials emphasized the need for tighter security measures and the importance of preventing future violent incidents on school grounds.
