The Hollywood Internship Program at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is providing students with unique opportunities to gain experience in the entertainment industry in Los Angeles. Alumni of the program, such as McKoy and Tyson Edwards, emphasize the importance of being open to various opportunities, finding interests and disinterests, and having fun throughout the experience. Edwards, who had internships at Birns & Sawyer and Massproductions, rotated between the two internships and attended classes with speakers, allowing him to connect with people and lay the groundwork for his future in the industry. Director of the program, Dayci Brookshire, is dedicated to selecting interns, helping them secure internships, and teaching them during the spring semester. As an actor and UNC alumna, Brookshire aims to support Tar Heels navigating the Hollywood industry and expand the UNC network in LA. She emphasizes the importance of creating a support system for all Tar Heels, whether they are part of the program or not. The program has not only helped students gain practical experience but has also facilitated the growth of a strong community of alumni working together on various projects, like Edwards’ short film, “In The Weeds”. Through the Hollywood Internship Program, UNC students are not only gaining valuable industry experience but are also forging lasting connections and opportunities in the entertainment capital of the world.
