Trump directs investigations of two ex-officials who disobeyed him

President Trump has directed federal agencies to revoke the security clearances of and review the activities of two former government officials who questioned his election fraud claims and conduct in his first term. Christopher Krebs, former head of the cybersecurity agency, and Miles Taylor, former DHS official, were targeted. Krebs said the 2020 election was won by Joe Biden, contradicting Trump’s claims. Taylor wrote an anonymous memoir criticizing Trump’s conduct. One memo called Krebs a “bad-faith actor” while the other said Taylor “stoked dissension.” Taylor predicted this response from Trump and emphasized the importance of dissent in democracy. Krebs was fired by Trump in 2020 for debunking election manipulation claims. Krebs was targeted for debunking claims about Dominion Voting Systems pushed by Trump’s lawyers. Krebs has consistently criticized Trump’s false claims about the election being stolen. The actions taken by Trump against Krebs and Taylor are seen as retaliation for their opposition to the president’s claims and conduct.
