Ellery D. Curtis, a former captain of Dartmouth College’s ski team, tragically passed away in a skiing accident at Palisades Tahoe resort in California over the weekend. The Placer County Sheriff’s Office identified Curtis as the victim of a head injury sustained while skiing on terrain accessed from the KT-22 chairlift. Curtis, known for her fearless attitude on the slopes, was remembered by her coach as a hard worker who earned the respect of her teammates.
A Vermont native, Curtis graduated from Dartmouth in 2022 and was a standout member of the alpine ski team. She received multiple accolades for her skiing performance and was also recognized for her academic achievements, making the National Collegiate All-Academic Ski Team three times. Curtis pursued a career in environmental policy and was working as a regulatory analyst in San Francisco at the time of her death.
Outside of skiing, Curtis was actively involved in competitive mountain biking and was remembered by her team as an amazing individual with a positive attitude that brought the team together. Her passion for protecting the environment and creating a more equitable society was evident in her career aspirations. Her sudden passing was described as a tragic loss, with her coach expressing confidence that she would have accomplished great things in the world. Curtis leaves behind a legacy of determination, fearlessness, and a commitment to making a positive impact on the world.
