12-year-old Derek Menzin of Bridgewater had an extra special birthday this year after winning the title of New Jersey’s 2025 Mini Master Model Builder. Competing in a Lego competition at Legoland Discovery Center at the American Dream mall in East Rutherford, Derek stood out among the top seven contestants with his original build based on the theme “Coolest Race Cars.” His one-of-a-kind Transformer Race Car impressed the judges and earned him the championship.
Having been building with Legos since he was four, Derek believes that creativity is key when it comes to working with the bricks. His big win was celebrated with a traditional “brick dump,” solidifying his place as an official member of the Legoland family. Now, Derek will compete on an even bigger stage for the title of “Global Mini Master Model Builder,” where he will represent his hometown and city against Mini Master Model Builders from around the world.
Despite the intense competition, Derek found the experience to be amazing and fun, showcasing the creativity and unique builds of each contestant. As he prepares for the global competition, Derek is excited to continue pushing the limits of his creativity and dedication with Legos. The attention now turns to Denmark, where his next build will be displayed at the Lego House alongside creations from Mini Master Model Builders from various Legoland Discovery Centers worldwide. Congratulations to Derek on his well-deserved win and best of luck in the upcoming global competition.
