The Vermont Coyotes, a new semi-pro basketball team based in Barre, experienced a hiccup in their plans as their first signing, Jose Ortiz, failed to attend a news conference to officially sign him. Owner Anthony Marques cited a last-minute emergency as the reason for Ortiz’s absence. Despite this setback, Ortiz is still expected to be part of the team as they prepare to join the American Basketball Association (ABA) for the 2025-26 season. The team will release their schedule on Aug. 10 and season tickets will go on sale on the same day. The Coyotes will also hold a combine for college players in May.
In addition to finalizing their roster, the Coyotes are also in need of a head coach after Jesse Palmer, previously announced for the role, departed from the team. The organization is expected to make an offer for a new head coach soon. The team joins the Bennington Martens as the second Green Mountain State team in the ABA. The Coyotes are gearing up for their inaugural season with high hopes and aspirations as they look to make a mark in the league.
