Burlington Fire Chief Michael LaChance has announced his retirement, effective June 30, 2025, after nearly 26 years of service with the Burlington Fire Department, including two years as Chief. LaChance began as a volunteer firefighter in Colchester over 30 years ago and joined the Burlington Fire Department in 1999, demonstrating a commitment to the department, its members, and the community. Mayor Emma Mulvaney-Stanak expressed her gratitude for Chief LaChance’s partnership and dedicated service, emphasizing his wise counsel and support during her tenure. The Burlington Fire Fighters Association also expressed their appreciation for Chief LaChance’s passion and dedication to the organization. The City will announce plans for the transition of BFD leadership in early May. Chief LaChance, in a letter to Mayor Mulvaney-Stanak, reflected on the privilege of serving as Chief and praised the bravery and professionalism of the firefighters. His retirement marks the end of a long and successful career in public service.
