Additionally, Kim’s alignment with Russian President Vladimir Putin in the war in Ukraine has raised concerns about technology transfers between the two countries, potentially strengthening the threat posed by North Korea’s nuclear-armed military. South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff reported that North Korea sent around 3,000 additional troops to Russia in January and February, and has continued supplying ammunition and military equipment. As the conflict in Ukraine continues, the Joint Chiefs believe that around 4,000 of the approximately 11,000 North Korean troops sent to fight have been killed or injured.
