The UK Consul General to New England, David Clay, made his first trip to Vermont in an effort to strengthen ties between the UK and the Green Mountain State. During his visit, he met with Lieutenant Governor John Rodgers, legislators in Montpelier, the Vermont Emergency Management Agency, and the UVM tech hub. Clay emphasized the importance of encouraging trade and investment between the UK and New England, as well as promoting science and innovation, cooperation, and consumer protection. Vermont Secretary of food, agriculture and markets, Anson Tebbetts, highlighted the potential for increasing the presence of Vermont products like maple syrup and cheese in the UK market. The Vermont Tech Alliance is also working to establish Vermont as a welcoming destination for companies looking to expand into America. Despite being based in Boston, Clay made an effort to connect with individuals in Vermont and expressed hope for a strong and lasting partnership between the state and the UK. As he prepares to return to Boston, Clay has made time to enjoy some Vermont maple syrup and cheese before leaving. Overall, both Vermont businesses and policymakers expressed optimism for future collaborations with the UK.
