Later in the week, Senator Welch convened a roundtable in Newport, Vermont, with Vermont and Canadian business leaders to discuss President Trump’s Trade War and the harmful effects of tariffs on workers, families, and farmers. He also toured local businesses to further understand the impacts of these policies.
Senator Welch further toured Brattleboro Memorial Hospital, where he discussed his bipartisan bill to support rural health care providers and the potential impact of proposed Medicaid cuts on Vermonters. He also met with business leaders and workers from Allard Lumber Co. and G.S. Precision, Inc. in Brattleboro.
Returning to the Statehouse, Senator Welch met with the Vermont State Senate Appropriations Committee to provide an update on budget negotiations and raise concerns about proposed cuts to Medicaid and other programs. He also toured Rhino Foods, a Certified B Corp focused on innovative employee-centered practices, and attended Winooski High School’s Community Iftar event.
