First measles case confirmed in Vermont in 2025.

Vermont Department of Health has confirmed the first case of measles in 2025, in a child from Lamoille County who recently returned from an international trip. The child has been isolated while contagious, reducing the risk to the public. This case is not linked to the ongoing measles outbreaks in the U.S. or Quebec. The only known site of exposure is Copley Hospital, where the child was evaluated on Sunday. The hospital has contacted those who were in the emergency department during that time.
The Department recommends that anyone who was in the emergency department between 3:15 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Sunday should confirm their immunity to measles by contacting their healthcare provider or the Department of Health. They should monitor for symptoms through March 30 and contact their healthcare provider if any symptoms develop. It is advised to not visit a doctor’s office or hospital without notifying them first about potential measles exposure.
There were two cases of measles in Vermont in 2024, and one case each in 2018 and 2011. The positive test result for measles was confirmed on Monday evening, with efforts in place to mitigate further spread of the disease. The Vermont Department of Health is closely monitoring the situation and working to ensure the safety of the public.
