Engage in the Discussion on the Outlook for Vermont Dairy Industry


The Vermont Agency of Agriculture, Food and Markets (VAAFM) is conducting a series of listening sessions to gather input from dairy stakeholders across the state. These sessions provide an opportunity for farmers, processors, and others in the dairy industry to share their thoughts, concerns, and ideas for the future of Vermont dairy. The VAAFM aims to use the feedback from these sessions to develop a report that will support future dairy policy discussions and initiatives. In addition to in-person sessions, virtual sessions will be held for specific dairy focus groups.

The Farm Agronomic Practices (FAP) program is now accepting spring applications, offering funding for practices that improve soil health and water quality. Practices such as grazing, no-till crop planting, and manure injection are eligible for funding on a first-come, first-served basis. Applications must be submitted by April 1st.

Nominations are open for the New England Leopold Conservation Award, which recognizes farmers and forestland owners in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont who excel in land management. The $10,000 award honors those who prioritize soil health, water quality, and wildlife habitat. The deadline for nominations is June 15th.

The Intervale Center has revamped Vermont Land Link, a platform that helps connect land seekers with landowners in Vermont. The platform, now with a new website design, aims to facilitate successful land matches for agricultural use. Land seekers and landowners are encouraged to create profiles and listings showcasing their properties or land-use vision.

The Climate Council is updating Vermont’s 2025 Climate Action Plan and seeking public input. A draft plan will be available at the end of March, with public engagement opportunities in April. Feedback can be provided through virtual or in-person events or written comments, with the revised plan expected by July 1st.
