Sugarmakers in Vermont and New York celebrated Maple Open House Weekend, drawing in visitors from near and far. Morse Farm Sugarworks, the oldest continuously operating maple farm in Vermont, welcomed guests to learn about the sugaring process. The Palmer family, newer to the business, showcased their maple products and collected donations for Vermont flood recovery and first responders. Audubon Vermont highlighted their unique sugar woods that are bird-friendly habitats, prioritizing the needs of the local wildlife. Olivia Palmer, one of Vermont’s two maple ambassadors, represented the state’s maple industry at the event. The weekend featured a variety of maple treats, from maple cream donuts to maple hot dogs, and maple creemees. With visitors coming from 17 states and four foreign countries, the Maple Open House Weekend showcased the importance of community involvement and sustainability in the maple industry. Whether it was exploring Audubon’s bird-friendly forests or enjoying a sweet maple treat, attendees experienced the essence of Vermont’s rich maple tradition that keeps them coming back year after year.
