Yolanda Marodi, the suspect in the fatal stabbing of her wife, fire captain Rebecca Marodi, has been captured in Mexico after being on the run for over a month. Mexican officials found her in a hotel near the U.S. border and transferred her to the border with the help of the National Institute of Migration. It is unclear if she was handed over to U.S. authorities for extradition. The killing occurred on February 17 at the couple’s home in San Diego County.
Yolanda Marodi was charged with murder and was caught on security camera leaving the scene after the stabbing. She had a previous conviction for voluntary manslaughter in 2003. An affidavit revealed that Yolanda texted a witness after the killing, claiming that Rebecca had told her she was leaving for someone else. First responders found Rebecca with multiple stab wounds and she was declared dead at the scene.
Rebecca Marodi had been a firefighter for over 30 years, starting in Moreno Valley before becoming an engineer and eventually a captain. She was known for prioritizing the well-being of her colleagues and dedicating herself to serving and protecting communities. An online fund has been set up to support her family.
The search for Yolanda Marodi involved multiple law enforcement agencies on both sides of the border, with cooperation between U.S. and Mexican authorities leading to her capture.
