River Hawks Secure Victory Over Vermont with Last-Second Win, 14-13

Junior Macy Shultz scored three goals, including the game-winner with just two seconds remaining, to lead the UMass Lowell women’s lacrosse team to a thrilling 14-13 comeback victory over the Vermont Catamounts. The River Hawks, who improved to 8-2 overall and 2-0 in conference play, fought back from a late one-goal deficit with goals from multiple players, including a career-best performance by junior Audra Hansen. After taking a slim lead in the final minutes, a crucial draw control by junior Rachel Stax set up Shultz’s last-second heroics. Shultz finished the day with three goals and an assist, while Hansen tallied four goals and set a new personal best with six points.
The victory was a testament to the team’s resilience and determination, as they came from behind multiple times throughout the game to secure the win. Defensively, sophomore Alexa Kuhn made eight saves, and Stax dominated with nine draw controls. The team effort was crucial in securing the hard-fought victory.
With the win, the River Hawks improved their record and will look to keep their momentum going as they return home to face UAlbany on Saturday. The team will be looking to build on their impressive performance against Vermont and continue their success in conference play. Fans can catch the action at Cushing Field with the opening draw control set for 5 p.m.
