Middlebury Softball Wins Two Games at Spring Games in Florida
The Middlebury softball team showcased a strong offensive performance during THE Spring Games in Clermont, Florida, earning victories against Salem State and Nazareth. The Panthers defeated Salem State 10-2 in five innings, with Jennifer Westphal and McKenna Lont contributing to the early lead. They followed up with a 5-3 triumph against Nazareth, with Olivia Schultz and Uma Corcoran leading the offense.
In the game against Salem State, Middlebury took an early lead and continued to build on it throughout the game. Olivia Schultz and Cate Viola contributed key hits to secure the 10-2 win. Against Nazareth, the Panthers held onto their lead despite a late rally by the Golden Flyers. Abigail Jankowski’s strong pitching performance helped Middlebury secure the 5-3 victory.
Notable performances included Kristyn Carroll scoring her 100th career run against Nazareth, Olivia Schultz recording a career-high three RBI, and victories in the circle for Samantha Hausman and Emily Ye. Middlebury faced Salem State and Nazareth for the first time in softball.
The Panthers will wrap up their Florida trip with two final games, facing off against Wellesley and Plattsburgh State on Friday. Middlebury will look to continue their success on the diamond as they prepare for the rest of their season.
