In a hard-fought battle, the No. 14 UMass hockey team secured a 2-1 victory over Vermont in the Hockey East first round playoffs on Wednesday. The Minutemen scored two quick goals in the first period and held on to advance to the next round. Despite being outshot by Vermont, UMass managed to hold off their opponents with a strong defensive performance.
