The Vermont Agency of Agriculture, Food & Markets is hosting several upcoming events to support dairy producers and industry allies in New England. One of the workshops, “Drawing the Line in the New England Milkshed,” will focus on regional zoning for dairy industry preparedness in light of recent bird flu outbreaks affecting dairy herds in the Midwest and western states. Led by Dr. Julie Smith from UVM, the project aims to define boundaries for the New England milkshed to reduce the risks of disease spread. Participants will determine the feasibility of establishing a regional protection zone as a response strategy.
In addition to the workshop, the Agency is offering a webinar on the Farm to School and Early Childhood Vision Grant, with an optional applicant webinar on March 12th. The grant application is due on April 10th. There will also be listening sessions across Vermont to gather input from dairy stakeholders about the future of the state’s dairy industry.
Furthermore, the Agency is hosting a Pesticide Certification Event on April 8th for new applicators to review the Northeast CORE Manual and take the Vermont Pesticide Applicator CORE Exam. It is important for anyone in Vermont who uses, supervises, recommends, or sells pesticides to attend this event in order to maintain their certification.
