Perrigo, a multinational company known for manufacturing over-the-counter health products, has announced plans to shut down its infant formula manufacturing facility in Georgia, affecting around 420 employees. The company cited the age and evolving regulatory requirements of the facility as reasons for the closure. Employees were informed of the decision earlier this week and the company is exploring options such as redeployment opportunities and workforce support programs. Perrigo has expressed gratitude for the dedication of its Vermont employees and has offered a retention and severance package above standard. The phase-out production is expected to be completed by 2027. This closure marks the end of Perrigo’s decade-long operation of the Georgia facility, which was acquired from PBM Nutritionals in 2010. The company expressed regret over the closure but deemed it necessary due to the cost-effectiveness of maintaining the facility. Nevertheless, Perrigo aims to support its employees through the transition and ensure a smooth process.
