Arcana Workshop, based in Barre, Vermont, has been responsible for creating several iconic pieces of art around the state. Founded in 2015 by Mike Turner, who honed his skills at Universal Studios, the studio has crafted sculptures, interactive games, and larger-than-life installations for various businesses and organizations. With projects ranging from $10,000 to $150,000, Arcana’s creations can be seen in places like Ben & Jerry’s factory and Burlington International Airport.
Turner, along with his employee Dan Flanders, works out of a 4,000-square-foot studio filled with art supplies. Their creations involve materials like foam, fiberglass, and papier-mâché. Over the past decade, they have worked on projects for clients both in-state and out-of-state, creating replicas of airplanes, robots, and sculptures for museums and businesses.
One of their notable projects involved constructing life-size dinosaurs for a Christian theme park in Kentucky. While Turner now has the luxury to pick and choose his projects, he remains passionate about creating custom pieces over mass-produced items. The duo is currently working on transportation-themed boxes for a children’s institution in Boston and constructing a replica of the head of Bruce, the shark from Jaws.
Despite the outlandish nature of their creations, Turner takes meticulous care in crafting replicas with attention to detail. The studio’s work has garnered attention and excitement, such as with their exhibit at the Sullivan Museum and History Center. With an eye for historical accuracy and a love for the craft, Arcana Workshop continues to create unique and engaging art pieces that captivate audiences.
