Lalmba, a nonprofit based in southern Colorado, is bringing digital literacy to a remote village in Kenya through their Matoso Education and Empowerment Center. The center, which recently set up five computers in an old library, has become a hub of learning for both children and adults in the community. Children who had never used a computer before quickly learned to navigate the desktop, access educational resources, and engage in games and challenges. Adults are also showing up to learn new skills, apply for jobs, and start businesses.
The introduction of technology in this community is opening up endless possibilities for its residents, many of whom had never been exposed to computers before. Lalmba aims to expand their digital resources, including more computers, books, and internet access through Starlink, to further support the community’s education and digital literacy.
With the official opening of the Matoso Education and Empowerment Center scheduled for June, Lalmba is focused on providing long-term access to digital resources and supporting the growth and development of the community. Through their work, Lalmba has seen firsthand how access to technology can change lives, especially in remote areas that are often overlooked by the international community.
