Protesters gather near Vermont ski resort to demonstrate against Vance

Crowds of protesters gathered near a Vermont ski resort where Vice President JD Vance planned to vacation with his family, following a heated Oval Office exchange involving Ukraine. Demonstrators held signs in support of Ukraine, while others waved Palestinian flags or signs for immigrant rights. The protests took place at various locations, including along Route 100 in Waitsfield. The demonstrations were energized by Vance’s exchange with Ukrainian President Zelenskyy and President Trump, where Vance questioned Zelenskyy’s challenge to Putin’s trustworthiness.

Despite planned protests, Vance and his family arrived in Vermont for a ski trip at Sugarbush Resort. A few protesters were present at the resort, but the demonstrations were peaceful and not disruptive. Vermont Governor Phil Scott welcomed Vance to the state, urging residents to be respectful despite political differences. Some supporters of Vance and Trump held a smaller “welcome rally” in response to the protests.

The resort spokesman confirmed the presence of peaceful protestors but declined further comment, referring reporters to the White House. Messages left for White House officials were not immediately returned. Protesters criticized Vance for his stance on Russia, with one suggesting he should go skiing there since he has friends in Russia. The protests highlighted tensions surrounding Vance’s visit to Vermont and his controversial remarks regarding international issues.
