Korea Strengthening Connections with NATO in the Field of Science and Technology

Korea has recently joined NATO’s Science and Technology Organization as a partner country, signifying a significant step towards increased collaboration with the Western military alliance. This partnership will allow Korea to participate in joint research and development activities with other NATO members, as well as contribute to planning projects under the alliance’s Science and Technology Committee. By entering this partnership, Korea becomes the third partner country after Japan and Australia.

The science and technology group serves as a platform for cooperation in advanced defense technologies among its members, and Korea’s entry into the partnership is seen as laying the groundwork for multilateral defense science and technology cooperation with Europe for the first time, representing a milestone in Korea-NATO cooperation. Although Korea is not a member of NATO, it is one of the alliance’s four partners in the Indo-Pacific region, along with Australia, Japan, and New Zealand.

This development highlights Korea’s commitment to enhancing its ties with NATO in the science and technology sector, providing opportunities for collaboration and exchange of expertise in advanced defense technologies. The partnership is expected to strengthen defense cooperation between Korea and Europe and contribute to the advancement of defense technologies on a global scale.
