Pro-Ukraine protests have erupted across the US following an angry exchange between President Donald Trump, Vice-President JD Vance, and Ukrainian President Volodymr Zelensky at the White House. Demonstrations took place in major cities like New York, Los Angeles, and Boston, with supporters holding signs to show solidarity with Ukraine.
In Waitsfield, Vermont, where Vance and his family were vacationing, protesters lined the streets denouncing the Trump-Vance administration and Russia’s aggression towards Ukraine. The Vance family reportedly moved to an undisclosed location due to the demonstrations, despite Governor Phil Scott urging Vermonters to be respectful.
While Vance has not publicly commented on the protests, supporters of Trump and Vance also gathered in Waitsfield. In a separate protest, demonstrators rallied outside Tesla stores nationwide to oppose Elon Musk’s efforts to cut government spending.
The tensions between Trump, Vance, and Zelensky escalated during a heated meeting in the Oval Office, with Trump urging the Ukrainian president to make a deal with Russia or face consequences. Zelensky, who will attend a summit with European leaders hosted by UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, received further support from the UK Chancellor Rachel Reeves, who signed a loan agreement worth £2.26bn to aid Ukraine’s military efforts and reconstruction.
The protests in the US reflect growing concern over the situation in Ukraine and the need for continued international support to prevent further conflict.
