Despite some concerns about pharmaceutical content in urine, research suggests the impact on crops is minimal.
Challenges to expanding peecycling programs include regulation barriers and the heavy nature of urine for transport. However, efforts are being made to overcome these obstacles, with REI working with regulators to create a clear pathway for urine recycling. Additionally, advancements in freeze concentration systems and plumbing design are being developed to make urine donation easier and more efficient.
