Women’s Hockey Secures Spot in Hockey East Quarterfinal with 3-2 Overtime Win Against Holy Cross


The University of Vermont’s women’s hockey team secured a thrilling 3-2 victory in the opening round of the Hockey East Playoffs against Holy Cross. Vermont native Cecilia DesLauriers scored the game-winning goal in overtime, sending the Catamounts to the Quarterfinals. Head Coach Jim Plumer praised the team’s intensity and heart in the hard-fought battle.

The game saw back-and-forth action with Charlotte Sonntag scoring first for Holy Cross, followed by goals from Kyla Bent and Maddy Skelton for Vermont. Oona Havana and Rose-Marie Brochu added to the lead, but Lane Lewis tied the game for Holy Cross. The game remained tied until DesLauriers netted the winning goal in overtime.

Key players included DesLauriers, Skelton, Brochu, and Havana, each contributing to the victory. Vermont outshot Holy Cross and dominated in faceoffs, with Evelyne Blais-Savoie and Lara Beecher showcasing strong performances.

With the win, Community Bank N.A. and Vermont Mutual Insurance will be making donations to Special Olympics Vermont and the Lund Center, respectively. The Catamounts will now face the Boston University Terriers in the Quarterfinals, with the game scheduled for Saturday at 4 p.m. and broadcast live on ESPN+.
