Vermont Association of Conservation Districts Announces Michelle Monroe as New Executive Director | Local News

The Vermont Association of Conservation Districts is excited to announce the appointment of Michelle Monroe as its new Executive Director. With extensive experience in public policy and communications, Monroe is well-equipped to support the state’s 14 Natural Resources Conservation Districts in their mission to promote sustainable land and water management.

Monroe’s background includes working closely with Vermont farmers and policymakers as a member of U.S. Senator Peter Welch’s state staff, as well as holding key roles in the office of U.S. Senator Patrick Leahy. She also brings journalism experience, having covered environmental and agricultural issues for the Saint Albans Messenger.

As Vermont faces challenges related to water quality, climate resilience, and agricultural sustainability, Monroe’s expertise will be crucial in advocating for locally led conservation efforts. She is passionate about supporting the work of conservation districts, which have played a vital role in addressing environmental challenges since the Dust Bowl.

Monroe expressed gratitude for the opportunity to champion the important work of VACD, especially following in the footsteps of outgoing Executive Director Jill Arace. Arace led the organization through a period of growth and impact, and she and Monroe will work together to ensure a smooth transition when Monroe assumes her new role in March.

With her strong relationships with Vermont’s conservation districts, farmers, and decision-makers, Monroe is poised to enhance VACD’s ability to advocate for sustainable land and water management across the state. Her appointment comes at a critical time for Vermont, and her leadership will undoubtedly make a positive impact on conservation efforts in the state.
