Los Angeles influencer Summer Wheaton turned herself in to authorities on Monday after a warrant was issued for her arrest in relation to a fatal car accident in 2024. Wheaton was booked on suspicion of manslaughter and drunk driving but was released after posting a $230,000 bond. She was named in a wrongful death lawsuit filed by the family of the victim, Martin Okeke, who died after being struck by a vehicle on the Pacific Coast Highway. The lawsuit alleges that Wheaton was hired to attend a party at Nobu Malibu, where she was expected to consume alcohol, and that the restaurant did not have the proper permits for the event.
Wheaton faces charges of driving under the influence and causing great bodily injury. She has not publicly addressed the crash, but in a video posted in December, she reflected on the difficulties she has faced. Okeke’s family is seeking damages in a full jury trial.
Representatives for Nobu Malibu and the Hwood Group LLC did not immediately respond to requests for comment. The lawsuit alleges that Wheaton drove herself from the party in violation of the event’s rules, causing a head-on collision. Despite the denial from Nobu’s attorney, Okeke’s family is pursuing damages without limitation.
