Students from seven schools across Southwest Oklahoma recently participated in a SkillsUSA Hands-on Competition hosted by the Great Plains Technology Center in Lawton. The event, which took place on Feb. 25, allowed students to showcase the skills they have been learning in areas such as car servicing.
Jessica LaFoe, a student from Western Technology Center, expressed her excitement for the competition as it would test her knowledge of car mechanics and show her what she needs to know for real-world applications in a shop setting.
An instructor at the Great Plains Technology Center highlighted the importance of SkillsUSA in providing students with alternative career and educational opportunities outside of traditional college pathways. The program offers training in both leadership and mechanical skills.
The competition served as a valuable opportunity for students to demonstrate their abilities and gain hands-on experience in their chosen field. Through SkillsUSA, students were able to further develop their skills and prepare for future career endeavors in the industry.
