Two officers in Virginia Beach were killed during a shooting while conducting a traffic stop.

Two police officers, Christopher Reese, 30, and Cameron Girvin, 25, were shot and killed during a traffic stop in Virginia Beach by the suspect, John McCoy, 42, who was later found dead with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The officers were attempting to pull over a car with expired plates when McCoy became argumentative and shot them during a struggle. McCoy then shot the officers again before driving off. Both officers were pronounced dead at nearby hospitals. In a press conference, Virginia Beach Police Chief Paul Neudigate expressed sorrow for the loss of the young officers and confirmed that McCoy’s cause of death appeared to be self-inflicted. Neudigate was joined by Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares and Virginia Beach Mayor Bobby Dyer in mourning the tragedy. The city of Virginia Beach is heartbroken by the loss of their brave officers and their dedication to protecting the community will never be forgotten.
