Monitoring Vermont’s Legal Actions Against the Trump Administration

Vermont Attorney General Charity Clark has been busy challenging the Trump administration through numerous lawsuits since the president took office. Clark and other states have sued Trump’s administration five times in just a few weeks, with more lawsuits likely to come. The lawsuits are in response to executive orders and actions taken by Trump that Clark and other attorneys general believe to be unconstitutional or illegal.

One of the recent lawsuits involves Trump’s creation of a “Department of Government Efficiency,” led by Elon Musk, which Clark and other attorneys general argue is illegal and gives Musk too much power. Additionally, Clark and her counterparts in 21 other states successfully paused a Trump administration effort to cut federal funding for public health research. This move could have had serious consequences, including the suspension of clinical trials and layoffs in the research sector.

Clark’s goal is to block any unconstitutional or illegal actions taken by the Trump administration and ensure that the separation of powers is respected. She and other Democratic attorneys general are committed to holding the administration accountable for its actions. A hearing for the recent lawsuit regarding federal funding for research is scheduled for February 21. Clark and her team will continue to challenge the administration in the courts to protect the interests of Vermonters and uphold the rule of law.
