Challenges persist for Southern Vermont ski hill this winter as they persevere through difficult conditions.

Despite facing challenges such as a lack of snow due to drought and a malfunctioning T-bar lift, the Brattleboro Ski Hill in Vermont is persevering this winter. The all-volunteer ski hill has managed to reach complete snow coverage with the help of recent weather events and access to a town hydrant. However, they are barely scraping by with enough snow to get through the season. The electrical actuator on the T-bar lift recently failed, but the ski hill has hired an expert to fix it, although the outdated part needed for the repair is rare and hard to find. Despite these setbacks, the ski hill continues to offer affordable recreation opportunities, including lessons for young riders and $5 lift tickets. The hill has been bustling with activity, with schools using the hill for winter sports programs during the week and Mount Snow lessons being hosted for kids aged 7 to 14. Even without the lift, many visitors are still enjoying the hill, such as Lila Thorne, who doesn’t mind walking up to practice telemarking. The community has also rallied behind the ski hill, with many coming together to help make necessary repairs. The Brattleboro Ski Hill remains a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts, offering a unique and enjoyable experience for all who visit.
