Warmer Temperatures Expected as Severe Freeze Begins to Ease Its Grip

A major snowstorm and freezing temperatures that gripped parts of the U.S. are finally beginning to thaw, with Friday being the last day for record-low temperatures. More than 70 million people remain under cold alerts, but a warm-up is expected over the weekend and into next week. Chicago will see temperatures in the low 30s on Friday with a climb to the mid-to-upper 40s by Monday and Tuesday. Dallas will also see a warm-up, with temperatures in the 70s on Monday and Tuesday after being in the upper 30s on Friday. Along the Gulf Coast, rain and isolated storms will cause a soggy weekend, with Louisiana experiencing more rain on Sunday and showers possible in southern Mississippi and Alabama. Overall, the widespread cold snap is coming to an end, and warmer weather is on the way for many areas of the U.S.
