Mobile Experts released a new report on the future of Neutral Hosted Networks (NHN) and indoor cellular connectivity. The report discusses how larger venues like airports and stadiums use Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS) for strong cellular coverage, while smaller buildings opt for cost-effective solutions like repeaters, small cells, and Wi-Fi Passpoint. A new approach, Multi-Operator Core Network (MOCN), is emerging as a low-cost solution for shared RAN, allowing for private cellular connectivity as well.
The report highlights various vertical markets where private cellular is beneficial for building operations and IoT applications, offering seamless access to multiple mobile operators for visitors. Managed services for neutral-hosted networks, including technologies like DAS, Wi-Fi Passpoint, MORAN, and MOCN, are projected to grow. Kyung Mun, Principal Analyst at Mobile Experts, stated that multi-operator technologies are evolving to be more streamlined and cost-effective, with MOCN and MORAN offering efficient solutions for indoor cellular connectivity.
The report predicts a shift from carrier investments to a growing market for managed services in the in-building wireless sector, providing neutral host providers with a wide range of technology options and hybrid solutions to meet the cost and performance needs of various enterprise verticals. This evolution in indoor cellular connectivity is expected to offer more choices for building owners and operators to enhance wireless connectivity for both building operations and visitor experience.
