A famous five-star hotel in central London, the Chiltern Firehouse, known as a celebrity hotspot, is closed indefinitely after a massive blaze broke out. The London Fire Brigade responded with 20 fire engines and 125 firefighters to extinguish the fire in Marylebone. The venue, which features a luxury hotel and award-winning restaurant, was packed with customers before the fire started, causing around 100 people to evacuate.
The cause of the blaze, which started in the kitchen and spread upstairs through ducting, is still unknown. The hotel, housed in a former fire station from the 1880s, is owned by American hotelier Andre Balazs and has been a popular spot for A-list celebrities and royals.
Despite the fire, no injuries were reported, and the emergency response was praised for its swift action in containing the blaze. The owner expressed gratitude for the firefighters and confirmed that the venue would remain closed until further notice while the fire services continue their investigation.
The Chiltern Firehouse, known for hosting star-studded events, was set to hold a Bafta party on Sunday, but now remains closed due to the fire. The incident caused disruption for those in the area and left witnesses in shock at the large amount of smoke seen engulfing the street as firefighters worked to control the situation.
