Vermont Nordic and Alpine Ski teams are gearing up for the upcoming Middlebury Carnival, set to take place over two days starting on Friday, February 14th and continuing through Saturday, February 15th. The teams will be competing in Ripton, Vt. and Hancock, Vt. at the Rikert Outdoor Center and Middlebury Snow Bowl, respectively.
The schedule includes Alpine races in slalom and giant slalom, as well as Nordic races in Classic Sprint and 10k Classic Interval Start. Vermont’s Mackenzie Wood was recently named EISA Alpine Skier of the Week for his standout performances at the Dartmouth Carnival.
During the Dartmouth Carnival, Vermont finished in third place overall with strong showings from both the Nordic and Alpine teams. Notable results include Annie McColgan and Kristin Maltun Helland’s podium finishes in the 20k skate on the Nordic side, and Wood and Magnus Berge Styren’s podium finishes in the slalom on the Alpine side.
In the last Middlebury Carnival, UVM’s ski team dominated with top finishes in both Nordic and Alpine events, clinching first place overall. Under the leadership of Director of Skiing Bill Reichelt, the Catamounts have a history of success with numerous NCAA top-three finishes, team championships, individual champions, All-American citations, and EISA Championships.
