Marshall upset No. 1 seed Ohio State in the College Cup semifinals, with Tarik Pannholzer scoring the lone goal of the game. Marshall will now face unseeded Vermont, who beat Denver in a penalty shootout, in the championship game. Marshall’s goalkeeper, Aleksa Janjic, made five saves and had an assist in the win. Marshall has won six consecutive NCAA tournaments, including the national championship in 2020.

Vermont, making their first College Cup appearance, beat Denver to advance to the final. Max Murray scored the decisive goal in the penalty shootout after the game ended in a 1-1 draw through extra time. Vermont becomes just the third team in the past decade to beat two top-four seeds in one tournament. The Catamounts have now won 10 NCAA tournament games over the past three years, the most of any program in the NCAA.

Both teams entered the semifinals having not allowed a goal during the tournament, and the match remained scoreless in the opening half. Denver’s Sam Bassett scored in the 69th minute, but Vermont’s Yaniv Bazini equalized in the 84th minute. The game went into a penalty shootout, where Vermont emerged victorious. Vermont goalkeeper Niklas Herceg made a crucial save, and Murray scored the winning goal to send Vermont to their first-ever men’s College Cup final. The championship game will be held on Monday at 8 p.m. ET and will be televised on ESPN2/ESPN+.
